Objectives
This WP coordinates and promotes European research for the characterisation and the dosimetry of complex radiation fields. The research activities to be coordinated include experimental and computational studies in two areas.
New techniques are developed and current techniques need improvement for the characterization of complex workplace fields (including high-energy fields and pulsed fields) for the measurement and calculation of particle energy and direction distributions and for dosimetry. The means for coordination are benchmark exercises which are performed in selected workplace fields. A report will describe progress on new and improved methods and techniques.
The coordination of research on models for the assessment of occupational doses due to solar particle events is needed in order to aid the research, to increase the efficiency of resource utilization, and to facilitate the technology transfer to practical application and for the development of standards. A report will describe the results of the validation study of the models.
Milestones and deliverables
A milestone is the preparation of benchmark measurements in complex radiation fields.
Deliverables are the results of the benchmark measurement and of the validation study and contributions to workshops and conferences.
